Lunch held for families of deployed soldiers

A tribute to deployed soldiers displayed at the family luncheon.

A luncheon held by Audelia Williams owner of Crawdaddies Caféé and other anonymous sponsors was held Saturday, Feb. 17, for families of deployed soldiers.

The idea began when an anonymous veteran contacted Williams about holding the luncheon. The Heirholzer family who lost their son in Afghanistan were the first to be invited and the Nunes family who lost their son in Iraq also attended the luncheon.

Approximately fifty appreciate people attended the luncheon, and found solace in their common bond of having a loved one deployed to war.

A patriotic cake made especially for the families of deployed soldiers.

Mayor Bob Phillips and Chief Wayne Coomes spoke to the group, and Larry Hastings provided prayer and more kind words.

An anonymous business owner also pitched in to ensure that all of the families could attend the supportive gathering and wonderful meal that ended with American flag cupcakes.

Families of men and women serving our country over seas were treated to lunch at Crawdaddies.
