Rev. Robert H. Mizell, 84, entered his heavenly home on March 20, 2007, following a long illness. He was born in Memphis, TN, July 22, 1922. As a young man, he was active in Boy Scouts, earning the rank of Eagle Scout in 1938 and serving as a scout leader for several years following this achievement. He attended Mississippi College in Clinton, MS, and left to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II. Upon his discharge, he attended Union University in Jackson, TN, graduating in 1948.

He graduated from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KYin 1951. While at Union and Southern Baptist, he pastored Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Covington, TN. Later, he ministered to churches in Cox's Creek and Magnolia, KY., churches in Ohio, moved with his family to West Knoxville Baptist Church, then to Ardmore Baptist Church in Memphis.

He then was called as Director of Missions to New Duck River Baptist Association in Shelbyville, TN, serving for 18 years. Following retirement, he and his wife, Alice, moved to Mississippi, where he continued his service to the Lord as pastor at Cedar View Baptist Church in Olive Branch, and Oak Grove Baptist and Parkway Baptist churches in Hernando. His career as pastor spanned more than 50 years. He found great joy in helping to start and nurture new churches.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Alice James Mizell; daughter and son-in-law, Carol Mizell and Karl Gary Peterson, of Germantown, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher Robert and Mary Beth Mizell, Niceville, FL; three grandchildren, Ashley Marie Peterson, Cordova, TN, Robert Edward Peterson, Germantown; and Hannah Christianne Mizell, Niceville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, E.E. and Annie Mizell, two brothers, Emerson and

James Mizell, and two sisters, Julia Turnage and Jeanette Hester Hollis, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was at Brantley Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 22. Services will be at Parkway Baptist Church Friday at 2 p.m., Rev. Mike Ramage officiating.

Interment will be at West Tennessee Veteran's Cemetery on Forest Hill Irene Road in Germantown, TN.
