Troops in need of our help

Friday, March 23, 2007

Sgt. Terry Medley, a local soldier currently deployed in Basrah, has informed the local VFW that his unit is in dire need of specific items.

The first package is planned on being sent March 17 and will continue on a monthly basis. Of course, this can only be accomplished through the generosity of Marshall County Citizens in helping the VFW.

Items may be dropped off at the VFW Post 5109 Wednesdays 2:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. and Saturdays 2:00p.m. to 8p.m.

Items requested include toilet paper, paper towels, wet wipes, soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouth wash, dental floss, chap stick, hand lotion, coffee and filters, wash rags, tube socks size 10-13, briefs or boxers size medium to large, handkerchiefs, and Kleenex.

Non-perishable food items such as beef jerky, candy, spam, potted meat, Vienna sausage, crackers, and peanut butter are greatly needed, along with drinks such as orange juice, apple juice, Sundrop, and Coke.

Silly string is needed by our soldiers to detect booby traps. Please only give non-scented items and remember delivery can take four to five weeks while our troop are waiting for basic necessities.
