Morgan Abrigo, Forrest High School senior and four-year letterman was recently selected to the second team in the 152 pound weight class of the 2007 All Mid-State Wrestling team by the Tennessean.
Abrigo had a 28-3 record during the season and competed in the TSSAA State Championships in Chattanooga, losing 12-9 in the quarterfinals to the eventual state runner-up Jarret Toney.
In his four year career at Forrest, Abrigo compiled an overall record of 114-29 and finished as state runner-up in 2006 in the 140 pound weight class.
Forrest head coach Jason Spitzley recently commented that, "Morgan has been an excellent student athlete and it has been an enjoyment to coach him."
Abrigo, who was injured mid-way through the 2007 season, displayed the true heart of a champion during the tournament as he was in obvious pain and was never at hundred percent during the event. On more than one occasion, Abrigo came close to stopping during a match but persevered and continued on. By the end of the state tournament Abrigo had to be helped off the mat by Spitzley and Morgan's younger brother, Taylor Abrigo.
"I was very impressed with his performance at the state tournament," Spitzley said, "I think he would have won the title if he was not injured because I know Morgan as a wrestler. He would always find that one angle to beat an opponent, but his injury complicated that."
"I couldn't have asked for a better athlete, his four years here will add to the Forrest wrestling legacy."
