Out of more than 20,000 people attempting to reach a state basketball event, a Marshall County girl has not only reached the state competition, she placed third.

Brittany Umbles achieved such distinction on Feb. 3 during the Tennessee Elks Hoop Shoot, according to Kenneth Walker who's heralded the Lewisburg resident's accomplishment.

Brittany was shooting in the girls 10-11 age group from the Middle Tennessee District.

She did a "great job," Walker said while making the announcement this week. "After a tie for second place, she came in third. There were over 20,000 kids trying to get to the state shoot off. I am looking to see Brittany shooting for the state again next year."
