Amy Li, a kindergartner in Mrs. Locke's Oak Grove Elementary School classroom, was awarded Honorable Mention in the 2007 Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators contest sponsored by Nashville Public Television (NPT). The contest was open to children in kindergarten through third grades, with each grade level being judged separately.

In writing and illustrating her book, Coco Visits the Vet, Ami included her friend and classmate, Hunter Lancaster, who has a "real" dog much like her own. Her story showed the friends taking their dogs to the veterinarian for treatment; one illustration even shows both dogs resting on the vet's examination table (my favorite page).

For her placement in the contest, this young talent was honored during a reception at Nashville Children's Theatre where she also received an award, a medal, and other prizes.
