Lori "Tree Frog" Pearson was in the circle for Burlison's Floor Covering on Tuesday night in senior girl's league action and pitched a three-hit shutout in leading her squad to an 11-0 four inning victory over H&S Pharmacy.

H&S starts game shorthanded

H&S started the contest with just nine players and had no one who was experienced at the catcher's position. Both their number one backstop and reserve were unavailable for duty because of illness and other commitments. Camille Greer stepped up to volunteer to catch her first game ever for H&S and did an admirable job behind the plate the entire night.

Chapel Hill team sets offensive tone

Destin Payne set the table for Burlison's with a lead-off walk, stole second and advanced all the way home on a passed ball and a wild pitch to give her team a 1-0 lead.

Mieke Wallace struck out the second batter, but gave up consecutive walks to Jessica Hunt and Pearson who were both driven home on a triple to right field by Candace Caneer to make it 3-0. Caneer scored the fourth run of the inning on a passed ball to make the margin 4-0 after the first inning.

"Tree Frog" set the side down in order in the bottom of the first and Wallace whiffed the first two batters in the top of the second in a solid second inning on the mound for H&S.

H&S threatened in the home half of the second as Wallace led off with a walk after being beaned by Pearson. Burlison shortstop Kara Garafine made a great play on a come-backer to the mound by Aspen Wiles when she scooped a low throw out of the dirt on a 1-3 fielder's choice at second to nip Wallace.

Ayla Holt followed with a sharp single to right to put runners at first and second for H&S. Pearson struck out the next hitter, but gave up another hit to right by Kristin Crabtree to load the sacks with two outs. Pearson reared back and got the last out on a strikeout to end the biggest threat she would face in the game.

Burlison's added two more runs in the third as Payne again created a run with her speed on the bases, walking and moving all the way around the diamond to score to make it 5-0. After two outs, Ashley Scales singled to center field and manufactured a run to make it 6-0.

Pearson escaped a two on and two out jam in the bottom of the inning with another key last out strikeout to preserve the 6-0 lead.

Burlison's exploded for five runs in the top of the fourth as Payne reached on a strike-out passed ball, went to second on a walk by Garafine and scored on a wild pitch by Wallace to make it 7-0. Hunt doubled in Garafine to make it 8-0 and after a 6-3 put-out, Canneer drove home her third run of the contest with a single to right to make it 9-0.

Burlison's added two more runs to increase the score to 11-0 and H&S faced the ten run mercy rule to stay in the game. Pearson mowed down H&S 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning to secure the victory for Burlison's.

"It felt great", Pearson said, "I hope I can do it again Thursday night."
