Grand jury indicts four men

Friday, July 27, 2007

On Wednesday, the Marshall County Grand Jury decided cases against four Lewisburg men should proceed toward trial in circuit court. Having received the grand jury's report early that afternoon, Judge Robert Crigler arraigned the four men.

The defendants and their charges are: William Culbertson, 26, First Avenue North, violation of the sex offender registry law; Harold Jackson, 48, Silver Street, sexual battery by an authority figure; Michael E. Jones, 53, Glenn Avenue, habitual offender of the motor vehicle laws and third offense of driving on a revoked license, and; Russell McKinley Knott, 54, of Third Avenue, two counts of public intoxication, and one each of burglary and introduction of contraband into a penal institution.

Arraignment does not mean the defendants are guilty. Rather, their cases have been again examined to determine whether there is probable cause to believe that a crime was committed and that the defendant is the likely suspect so that charges might continue instead of being dropped.
