Physician surrenders license

Wednesday, August 29, 2007

A physician who had been practicing in Chapel Hill, where he was writing prescriptions for pain medication when it wasn't needed, has permanently surrendered his license to practice medicine, according to the Tennessee Department of Health.

Dr. Robert W. Delaplane, 81, who had been a resident of Thompson Road near Old Columbia Road (State Route 270) in Bedford County when he was working at North Medical Clinic on Horton Highway across from Forrest High School, has also been assessed $15,000 in civil penalties, the health department reported last week.

The location for Delaplane's former residence was obtained from Bedford County Sheriff Randall Boyce. A knock on the door resulted in two occupants saying the doctor no longer lives there and that they are new tenants. A phone call to the medical clinic was answered by machine with a message saying the clinic will be closed until Sept. 4.

A similar message was taped to the office door window.
