DA counters defense lawyer's characterization

An "on-going family feud" is behind an attempted murder charge reported by the Marshall County Grand Jury last week, according to the defendant's lawyer.

Countering that claim is District Attorney Chuck Crawford who said, "Regardless of any claimed motive, this crime, because of its seriousness, demands to be prosecuted."

The victim was hospitalized as a result of a beating, records show.

"I think, at best, it's an aggravated assault," defense attorney Bill Haywood said of events on May 8 that led to the arrest of John Patrick Vigneau, 36, of the Belfast Community.
