Beer permit up for third review on Monday
For the third time in recent weeks, Marshall County’s Beer Board is scheduled to consider a woman’s request to sell beer at her establishment on Fayetteville Highway near Petersburg.
The beer board is to convene at 5 p.m. on Monday in the County Courthouse Annex on the south side of the Lewisburg public square. The panel’s meeting precedes the monthly county commission meeting by 30 minutes.
Approximately 30-50 people went to the second floor of the annex on Monday this week when Board Chairman Larry McKnight didn’t have a quorum necessary to proceed with Brenda Lemley’s application. The panel first met to consider the application on Sept. 24.
“The applicant has up to three times in one year to reapply,” McKnight said Wednesday. “There was a lot of opposition at the first meeting,” he said, noting the issue included sale of beer with meals and packaged beer for carry out.
