The deadline for dropping off donations to the Toys for Kids program is Friday, Dec. 21. Donations can be dropped off at the offices of the Lewisburg Gas Department, Lewisburg Electric, Lewisburg Water and Wastewater, or the Lewisburg Fire Department.

Both toys and monetary donations are accepted.

Lewisburg AARP Chapter No. 5249 will hold its annual Christmas party and potluck dinner in the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10. Newly elected officers for 2008 will be installed by a visiting state AARP official.

Promise United Methodist Church, located in the Holt's Corner community, will present the award winning gospel country group The Babcocks in a free concert at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8. CGMG Songwriter Award winner Cowboy Joe, whose credits include several songs for the late Marty Robbins, is the leader of the group.

Seen on "Hee Haw" and the Grand Ole Opry, the group will be coming to Holt's Corner for one night only. Jenny Youngman of Chapel Hill United Methodist will open for The Babcocks.

"This is our Christmas present to Holt's Corner," said Larry Parker, pastor of Promise United Methodist.

Prior to the concert, a free spaghetti supper will be held at the church beginning at 5 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

There will be a memorial service Sunday, Dec. 9, from 4 to 4:30 p.m. in the chapel of Bills-McGaugh Funeral Home honoring the life of your loved one, sponsored by the Bills-McGaugh Funeral Home family. Sunset Park Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum will also conduct a "Light a Candle of Love" service with luminaries decorating the entire cemetery. Families with loved ones buried or entombed may light their candles following the memorial service.

The Marshall County monthly singing will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at Church Street Church of Christ. Everyone is welcome.

The American Red Cross will conduct two holiday blood drives this month. The first is from noon to 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 316 North Horton Parkway. The second is from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at Church Street Church of Christ, 305 West Church St.

To give blood you must be at least 17 years old, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, be in good general health, and present positive identification. There is no upper age limit for blood donation.

Mt. Moriah Baptist Church kicks off its week of prayer for foreign missions this week. They would like to invite the community to come and learn more about foreign missions and welcome home one of our fellow Marshall countians, Melanie Hastings Walters. Melanie will speak at Mt. Moriah on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. with an auction and dinner to follow. Proceeds from the auction of baked goods and crafts will benefit missionaries serving overseas.

Jeff and Melanie Walters were appointed as missionaries to Paris, France, in 2003, just as the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were intensifying. Jeff Walters is the former pastor of Smyrna Baptist Church in Chapel Hill.
