Robert Hastings Loyd, the mayor of Lewisburg from 1971-'73, died Saturday. He was 89.
"He was a prince of a fellow," said Lewisburg Mayor Bob Phillips, who recalled his predecessor arriving at the First Presbyterian Church for a Christmas Eve service when snow had to be cleared.
Attorney Bob Binkley, counsel for Lewisburg's Industrial Development Board, also remembers Loyd as a faithful member of the church and as the prominent proprietor of Bob Loyd Lewisburg Flower Shop from 1945-'83.
"He was a true gentleman in my book," Binkley said. "In dealing with people, he was the epitome of courtesy."

Loyd was born Feb. 16, 1918...for full coverage pick up a copy of December 19th edition.
