Each time a fire truck goes out to fight a fire, the Marshall County Chapter of the American Red Cross responds, too, and gives aid to the displaced family until they can get their lives in order.

The Red Cross also supports the firefighters, many of them volunteers, with drinks and meals. In the 12 months ending in June 2007, the Marshall County chapter responded to 19 structure fires, helping 21 families with emergency food, shelter and supplies. In addition, they provided canteen services to first responders on 83 woodland fire incidents.

Due to the high number of recent structure fires in Marshall County, the local chapter foresaw a budget shortfall in the near future. Board of directors member Phil Comstock came up with the idea of a fund-raising concert at the Dixie Theater and volunteered with his group, "Us Two and Him."

Ordinarily the group does not do much charity work, but as Comstock said, "We wanted to stand up for this cause."

The other half of the bill is the Nashville-based acappella group "Vocal Union."
