Ardeth Bender of Lewisburg shares this news of her great-granddaughter, Lexys Bender.

Lexys, 10, lives in Maitland, Fla., with her parents Bob and Sarah. She's the granddaughter of Roger Bender of Lewisburg.

Lexys decided to forego any Christmas presents this year so she could give to someone less fortunate instead. Her mom contacted the Arnold Palmer House, which put them in touch with a family that has a 1-year-old girl with leukemia. They also have four little boys and a teenage girl.

The mother has not left her daughter's side once in the last month and a half. The grandmother, who flew up to help with the other children broke into tears when she learned of Lexy's wish to help with the family's Christmas.

"It was a very heart-wrenching experience," Sarah Bender writes. "Lexys is a very special child. She has not only learned from this experience but has also taught our whole family how lucky we are."
