'It's not rocket science

Friday, January 18, 2008

A seven-year-old annexation request is being dusted off again by Lewisburg officials after one of several affected property owners says he wants fire protection from the city.

Grover Collins of Collins Real Estate and Auction Inc. and Collins and Miller Insurance, LLC, who resides at 1732 New Columbia Highway, sought to be annexed in 2001 and again this winter. Collins says he doubts whether his home will be afforded protection by Lewisburg firefighters again following a change in city policy.

Lewisburg's Fire Department used to respond to calls six miles beyond the city line, but that is no longer the policy. The Berlin Volunteer Fire Department now serves Collins' area.

Collins said he has come to feel as he does after making a simple request that got complicated.
