The Forrest Middle School Rockets are playing inspired ball and continued their fine play Monday night in Chapel Hill with a convincing 37-31 victory over the Community Vikings.
The Rockets, coached in the ballgame by Forrest AD Scott Delk, trailed in the game 4-2 and then never saw the short end of the scoreboard the rest of the night as they led by as many as 17 points in the fourth quarter.
After the early deficit in the opening minutes, the Rockets took control of the boards on both ends of the floor and were sparked by a great steal by Richard Hardin that led to a fast-break bucket.
Zach Ray scored the Rockets first bucket in the paint and Ryan Daughrity followed with a cut down the lane for two points to send Forrest in front to stay. Marshall Hunter ended the quarter by draining a fall away three from the corner as time expired for a 9-4 lead after the first quarter.
The beginning of the second was pivotal as the Rockets went on a 10-2 run to build the lead 14 points at 19-5. Mark Pope started the run with a jumper and Colby Anglin followed with a lay-in off of another Hardin steal.
