Coming off a lackluster performance in the World Tournament, the Forrest Middle School Lady Rockets started the New Year with a 36-24 win over the defending Tennessee Middle School Athletic Association state champion Moore County Lady Raiders.
Forrest Head Coach Sherry Jones, a former player from the Rick Insell Shelbyville stable, knows what it takes to win games.
After the Jan. 7 home contest Jones said, "Our defense changed the game. When we started out in a man-to-man, they adjusted. But when we went to the 1-3-1 press in the second half they could not adjust, and it was very tough for them to execute their plans."
Defense was the key the entire contest for Forrest as they forced the Lady Raiders into a low scoring affair from the beginning. The Lady Rockets scored only eight first-quarter points, but held Moore County to just six for a two-point lead after the first six minutes.
