Beatrice Dickens Williams
Mrs. Beatrice Dickens Williams, 96, died on Thursday, Jan. 31. 2008.
Mrs. Williams was a native of Bedford County, descended from families that were early settlers in the area. "Miss Bea's" teaching career started in a one-room school when she was still a teenager. She taught for 40 years at Warner Elementary School in Nashville and earned a masters degree in education from George Peabody College when she was 46 years old. Mrs. Williams was a member of El Bethel Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jason Landis and Emma Reid Dickens; husband, H. Young Williams; and sister, Edith Dickens Connelly.
She is survived by a sister, Kayrene Dickens Lawrence of Chapel Hill; and nephews Philip Jason Bailey and David Bailey.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, Feb. 4, from El Bethel Baptist Church, Shelbyville, with the Revs. Dan Reed and Tony Billions officiating followed by burial in the Dickens family plot in Unionville Cemetery.
Lawrence Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
