Senior night sweet for Lady Rockets

The Lady Rockets stand at attention during Marli Ratliff's moving rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.

"We are going to win it all again before we are done," said Blair Foster, one of the six Lady Rockets seniors honored before they pasted Community 52-22 in the last regular season home game for the group of girls that has forever raised the bar for women's basketball in Chapel Hill.

The Lady Rockets (22-3, 11-0) have now run off 12-straight victories, leaving just one game remaining on the regular season schedule with F.C. Boyd (1-19, 0-11) last night. The Lady Rockets will host a first-round District 9A Tournament game Thursday night in Chapel Hill.

The senior six of Foster, Gaby Bussell, Ayla Young, Dakota Wesson, Kensie McKee and Alyssa Gugger have already reached the pinnacle of high school sports, capturing the Gold Ball in 2006. But they want it just as bad in 2008 and came out against the Viqueens with a purpose.

"It is kind of bittersweet, technically playing our last game at home, but we know it is not over," Foster said in the post-game interview.

The fiery guard added, "We came out tonight and played tough from the get-go. When Ayla hit that three at the start of the game we were ready to go and we never let up after that."
