Pictures of their father hang on Larissa and Alex Nunes' bedroom walls. They were painted by two Iraqis he befriended.
Members of the Lewisburg Elks Lodge made a special presentation Saturday to the family of Staff Sergeant Todd Nunes, who was killed in 2004 in Kirkuk, Iraq, while deployed as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Elks Past Exalted Ruler Bryant Baugher presented a Medal of Valor, American flag and certificate of merit to Nunes' wife Christy and their children, Larissa and Alex Nunes. Also present was Elks member Carl Griffis, Christy's parents, Dennis and Kay Harrington, her sister, Tabitha Wyk, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. The Elks had previously made a similar presentation to Todd Nunes' mother.
Following the presentation, Christy, her mother and sister reminisced about Todd's life.

"It's very rare that he was serious," recalled Christy. "When he had to get geared to go out and do his job it was one thing, but there were a lot of times he was clowning around with the guys, making faces, playing games. He had that happy, laid-back, whatever-it-takes attitude."
