'Looking for Goodwill'

Tribune Photo by Karen Hall Pat and Scott Price have written a book about their five-year search for the good people.

"Has there ever been good news?"

Five years ago father and son Scott and Pat Price of Nashville set out to find the answer to that question. They visited Lewisburg this week to present a copy of their book, "Looking for Goodwill," which documents what they found, to the Marshall County Memorial Library.

The two began writing the book in July 2003, just after Pat graduated magna cum laude from Lipscomb University. They had seen a cartoon of a father and son watching TV in which the son asks, "Has there ever been good news?"

Instinctively the Prices knew there were good people all around doing good things every day. They decided to go out and interview people and write a book that would give the boy in the cartoon a definite answer: "Yes, there is good news everywhere you go, every day."

They started small, with a little road trip through Kentucky and Ohio on the way to a family reunion. Before the research was finished 11 months later, they had flown and driven to all 50 states and recorded interviews with 106 people.
