When the going got tough the Cornersville Bulldogs got going. Facing possible elimination from the playoffs, the Bulldogs (13-13) pulled away late from a feisty Santa Fe Wildcat squad to claim a 65-44 victory at home Tuesday night in the first round of the District 11-A tournament.

Although CHS crushed Santa Fe 58-32 in their last encounter on Jan. 18, Cornersville had trouble shaking the Wildcats (8-18) for much of the contest and held a tenuous two-point lead late in the third quarter.

The Bulldogs, though, dominated play down the stretch and outscored Santa Fe 26-7 over the final 10 minutes to sew up their third-straight win over the Wildcats.

Thanks to their triumph Tuesday, Cornersville advances to face District co-champion Culleoka in the semifinals on Friday, Feb. 15.

CHS head coach Adrian Wilson said he did not think his team overlooked Santa Fe but actually came into the game too psyched up.
