Rockets gain sixth straight region berth

Buck Bennett scores two of his 8 points on the short jumper in the Rockets' District 9A Tournament opening win over MTCS.

The Forrest Rockets opened up District 9A tournament play Tuesday night in Chapel Hill by defeating Middle Tennessee Christian School, 63-47.

The Rockets, winners of six straight games, also qualified for the region tournament as one of the top four teams remaining in 9A. Their appearance at Hillwood High School next week will continue a streak of six-straight region berths for Coach Davy McClaran and the Rockets.

"This was a big game for these boys and now they are 1-0 in big games," said McClaran. "We fought all night and we did not play to lose, we played to win."

Their next order of business will be a Friday night district semi-final game at Community versus long-time rival, Eagleville, who blew out F.C. Boyd 101-39. The Rockets owe a little pay back to their Eagle friends from last year's last second 30-29 loss in the region at Eagleville, ending the Rockets' season.
