'No more drive-thru restaurants!'

The question to the members of Lori Beardsley's sixth-grade class at Oak Grove Elementary School is this: How many of them plan to stay in Lewisburg once they graduate high school or college?

Here and there a few hands are tentatively raised. Outside, the temperature remains stubbornly below the freezing mark. A scattering of desultory snowflakes can be seen blowing in the wind, as if foreshadowing a cold, bleak future for the city.

How many, then, intend to get out of Dodge just as quickly as they reach the age of legal majority?
