New police chief named

A Sarasota, Fla., Sheriff's major has accepted Lewisburg's offer for him to be the city's next police chief, City Manager Eddie Fuller said Monday, reporting the new chief's first day on the job will be on or about May 1.

Chuck Forbis, commander of the Law Enforcement Division of the Sarasota County Sheriff's Department, will succeed Interim Chief David Ray who stepped up to that position upon the reassignment of former Chief Doug Alexander.

"My objective is to join a law enforcement agency in a close knit community and -- working in partnership with the staff of the agency and community -- provide the level of service that the community deserves while ensuring the professionalism and integrity within the agency," Forbis said in an announcement prepared at City Hall.

Fuller accepted Forbis as the nominee of Lewisburg's Police Advisory Board, created by a city council vote on Nov. 13.
