The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs' season came to an end Friday night in Waynesboro when they dropped a 65-47 decision to a powerful Wayne County Lady Wildcat squad (27-5) in the first round of the Region 6-A tournament.
Cornersville (17-12) hung tough early on and played the Lady Wildcats to a 22-22 tie in the first half. Wayne County, however, caught fire offensively in the second half and outscored the Lady Bulldogs 43-25 over the final two quarters to claim the 18-point victory.
Following the game, CHS head coach Micah Landers praised seniors Brittney Dickens, Sara Barnett, Tori Wolaver, Jessica King and Kaitlyn Hunter for the leadership they have shown this year and the dedication they have shown to the program.
"Their leadership has been as solid as any group I've ever had," said Landers. "They did a great job of leading by example and they always came in and worked hard."
