The Marshall County Tigerettes (26-4) advanced to the semifinals of the Region 5-AA tournament by defeating the Christ Presbyterian Academy Lady Lions, 56-36, in the first round Friday night, Feb. 22, at Dottie Kelso Gymnasium.
Although Marshall County hammered CPA, 65-24, last year in the opening round of the Region tournament, the Lady Lions showed some fight in Friday's contest and trailed by just a point early in the second quarter.
The Tigerettes, though, eventually imposed their will and pushed their lead to seven by halftime before opening up a 53-28 advantage late in the fourth quarter en route to the 20-point victory.
"I knew we were going to get their best effort," said MCHS head coach David Steely. "We were tied at the end of the first quarter but we were more consistent than them after that and we began to pull away."
