Marshall County commissioners are considering several ideas on how to reorganize the Joint Economic and Community Develop-ment Board, including term limits and reapportionment.
"We ought to get together in the next week or two and pass something," said Commissioner Sam Smith. Smith resigned Monday night as chairman of the County Commission but continues as a member of the commissioners' Tourism and Economic Development Committee.
Members of that committee and the JECDB had a wide-ranging discussion Feb. 7 on how to avoid duplication of services. It was a topic for county leaders before a discussion among some commissioners over lunch at Henry Horton State Park in late 2006. Subsequently, JECDB Executive Director Jamie Stitt resigned to accept a similar position with the state. The vacancy is seen by Commissioner Richard Medley as an opportunity to rewrite the agreement between the county and its municipalities on the JECDB, a state-mandated panel.
