Selection of another executive director for the Joint Economic and Community Development Board here was postponed Thursday so the board may consult with Marshall County's Tourism and Economic Development Committee.
County Mayor Joe Boyd Liggett on Friday provided that explanation on why JECDB Chairman Edmund Roberts canceled the board meeting. Liggett also announced the tourism committee would convene at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Courthouse Annex.
"Edmund wanted to give everyone involved a chance to meet with the county to work through the differences on the inter-local agreement," Liggett said. "There are some things that need correcting."
The inter-local agreement between the county and its municipalities is nearly seven years old. Liggett said the document that established the JECDB "is written differently from how we're doing it," so issues must be addressed.
State law requires counties to have a JECDB "to foster communication and facilitate economic and community development between and among governmental entities, industry and private citizens," according to an explanation in the county's latest audit.
