Drug sweep here nets 25
A roundup of alleged drug offenders has resulted in the arrests of 25 people in Marshall County. More arrests are expected.
Included in the roundup is a former candidate for Lewisburg City Council, Roy Rowe, who was photographed in the booking room wearing his campaign T-shirt.
The roundup is being conducted in Marshall and Bedford counties by the 17th Judicial District Drug Task Force.
"We'll have the majority of all of them in the next week," said Tim Lane, director of the task force that also serves Lincoln and Moore counties.
Marshall County Sheriff Les Helton said law enforcement officers spread out at about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday for the roundup, code named "Operation Byrne Blitz." Marshall County Jail records show that 25 suspects were booked by sundown.
Approximately 100 suspects were named in arrest warrants issued here and in Shelbyville early this week, according to Lane. Forty-four had been captured in both counties by 5:30 p.m.
