Conferring after Tuesday's City Council meeting are, from left, the Rev. Steve Thomas, Lewisburg's Police Chief Chuck Forbis, Mayor Bob Phillips and Councilman Robin Minor. Forbis is expected to assume his new duties on or about May 1.

Lewisburg's mayor and council members welcomed their new police chief to town on Tuesday night when they consummated other monthly business without surprise.

Chuck Forbis, commander of a division of the Sarasota, Fla., Sheriff's Department, was hired by City Manager Eddie Fuller on a recommendation from the Police Advisory Board and the new chief is in town looking for a place to live.

There were a couple of real estate agents in the audience, but they attended to pursue the sale of an old horse farm to the city. That was deferred to a special called session at 4 p.m. March 25, when that and other matters might be considered.

Forbis sat near Police Advisory Board Chairwoman Lina Horner and the Rev. Steve Thomas, another PAB member, during the meeting when the city manager reviewed a consolidation of revisions for the advisory board's bylaws.
