Robertson denied by police boad

Lewisburg's Police Advisory Board won't act on issues predating its creation, according to a board vote last week when police approached the panel about sergeant stripes.

Cpl. Jackie Robertson asked the board in January to consider reinstating him as sergeant after City Manager Eddie Fuller demoted him following consultation with City Attorney Bill Haywood and Interim Chief David Ray.

Robertson's demotion stems from an inconclusive investigation of a case with a teenager suspected of underage drinking in a city park last May. Drinking was less the issue as whether a patrolman was told or asked to release the suspect. The former could be obstruction of justice. Police "on the scene" have discretion.

Police board members declined to consider Robertson's request for reinstatement because their membership on the panel was announced Nov. 19, nearly six months after the teenager was released, according to board discussion Thursday. It was earlier in November that Robertson was demoted, reports stated last fall.
