Ariya named March of Dimes Ambassador

Wednesday, March 19, 2008

Every year the March of Dimes selects a local ambassador for its fundraising walks. The walks, formerly called WalkAmerica, have been re-named March for Babies this year.

Lewisburg's ambassador for 2008 is Ariya Sharma, the 3 1/2 year old daughter of Rajat and Misti Sharma. Ariya will be on hand in Rock Creek Park on April 19 to charm walkers with her lovely smile and lively personality.

When Ariya was born 17 weeks too soon, no one knew if she would survive, but she did. Her parents know the significant role that March of Dimes research played in helping Ariya get this far, so they are grateful for the chance to serve as the 2008 March for Babies Lewisburg Ambassador Family.

Misti tells Ariya's story.

"Our journey began when I was 23 weeks pregnant with our third child. My due date was December 16, 2004. I went in for a check up due to some things I was concerned about. From there I was sent to Centennial Women's Hospital for further evaluation and they found out that my amniotic fluid was leaking due to an infection in my body. We thought this just meant I had to be on bed rest for the next 17 weeks.
