During April, Marshall County veterinarians will give rabies vaccinations to dogs and cats at their offices for the reduced rate of $8 per pet. Tennessee State Law requires that dogs and cats six months and older be vaccinated against rabies and that vaccinations be kept up to date. Animals have already tested positive for rabies in and around Marshall County in 2008, so the Department of Health requests your cooperation in obeying the law and keeping our people and pets safe.

The Town of Cornersville will hold their regular meeting of Board of Mayor and Aldermen at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, April 3, at the City Hall. The meeting is open to the public and all citizens are welcome to attend.

There will be meetings for anyone interested in putting together a team in either the Men's Softball League or the Church League on Thursday, April 3, at the Southside Softball Park, Airport Road, Lewisburg. The Industrial Development Board of the City of Lewisburg will hold their regular monthly meeting at noon, Monday, April 7, at the City Hall, 131 East Church St.

The City of Lewisburg Alcoholic Beverage Commission will meet at 1 p.m., Monday, April 7, at the City Hall, 131 East Church St., to consider an application for off-premise consumption.

The Marshall County Negotiating Team, which will be negotiating a contract with Waste Management, will meet in Room 2204 of the Courthouse Annex, Lewisburg, at 5 p.m. on the following days:

Monday, April 7 -- Organizational meeting; Thursday, April 10 -- Waste Management proposals; Thursday, April 17 -- Negotiating team discussions and proposals; Thursday, April 24 -- Work out differences. Any contract created by the team will have to be approved by the Marshall County Commission. The public is welcome.

The Marshall County Solid Waste Committee will hold a meeting at 6 p.m., Monday, April 7, at the Lewisburg Middle School Auditorium.

The Lewisburg Gas Department will have their regular monthly meeting at 5 p.m., Monday, April 7. Board members are James Chapman, Al Henderson, and Quinn Brandon.

The Town of Chapel Hill Planning Commission will hold a public hearing at 5:30 p.m., Monday, April 7, at the Police and Fire Department, 119 North Horton Pkwy, to hear comments on the plan of services for a property that is requesting annexation. Their regular monthly meeting will follow the public hearing.

The Cornersville Athletic Booster Club will hold a meeting at 7 p.m., Monday, April 7, in the hospitality room of the High School gym. All members are urged to attend.

The Marshall County Extension Service will be certifying and re-certifying Private Restricted-Use Pesticide Applicators. The re-certification meetings are at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8. The Petersburg Planning Commission will meet at 6 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, at the Town Hall. Don Darden, Municipal Management Consultant with the State of Tennessee, will be speaking on expanding UGB's and annexation.

The Town of Chapel Hill Park and Recreation Board will hold their regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, at the Chapel Hill Police and Fire Department, 119 North Horton Pkwy.

The Beechwood Cemetery Association will meet at 6 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, at the Cornersville Lions Club Building to discuss the business of the cemetery. Anyone interested in the upkeep of the cemetery is urged to attend.

The Marshall County Education Association is offering a $1,000 scholarship to upcoming college juniors and seniors who are majoring in education. The Tennessee Technology Center at Pulaski is awarding two new scholarships to fund tuition, books and supplies during the summer trimester.
