Accord reached on JECDB
Agreement was reached Tuesday among members of a countywide board on how a contract between Marshall County and its four municipalities should be revised for economic and community development.
Budgeting procedures were at the crux of the settlement, and that routine process bumped a bid for what was compared to a cost of living adjustment. An automatic adjustment for inflation was stopped by Commissioner Jimmy Stitt.
If details of a struggle over the Joint Economic and Community Develop-ment Board seem like a deadly dull duel over dollars that government would spend anyway, an average resident here might hope their officials' volunteer work will help lower the unemployment rate, attract new employers who pay better wages, reduce the local burden for public works projects, and maybe persuade a company to open a sit-down restaurant here.
