Legion Auxiliary plans to distribute poppies

Wednesday, April 9, 2008

The American Legion Auxiliary will be out in full force on Friday, April 18, and Saturday, April 19, raising money to honor and benefit veterans of Marshall County. This major fundraiser for the group will make possible assistance to those in need, or their families.

"This is the time of year when the poppies are distributed," said Vernell Marshall, president of the Marshall County American Legion Auxiliary. "You may donate in advance, but we will start at 8 a.m. both days, in shopping areas as well as individual stores, plus the corners of the square in Lewisburg."

The poppy distribution is one of the oldest and most widely recognized Auxiliary programs, according to the history of the American Legion Auxiliary. In exchange for the poppies, contributions are collected from the public to assist many veterans and their families.

"This is a very important part of our fundraising efforts each year," Marshall said. "We want to be able to give generously to the community, supporting our veterans. They have given for all of us; we need to return to favor by supporting the poppy distribution.". . . .PICKUP A COPY OF TODAY'S EDITION OF THE TRIBUNE FOR FULL COVERAGE.
