Bussell, March named to TSWA All-StateTeam

Both Gaby Bussell from Forrest and Lauren March from MCHS are devoted team players and play down individual awards and accolades, but both are deserving of being named to the Tennessee Sportswriters Association's All-State Basketball Team.

What a career it has been for Bussell at Forrest. The senior has helped to elevate the program to one of the most feared and respected in the entire state. Bussell, the 2005-'06 TSSAA State Tournament MVP and three-time District 9A player of the year has set the bar high at Forrest.

During her four years at Forrest, the Lady Rockets compiled a record of 108-27, winning three consecutive District 9A titles, three Region 5A championships and, beginning with the 2005-'06 season, they went to the state tournament three consecutive years, capturing the school's first state championship in any sport during that incredible 2005-'06 season.

"It is always an honor to receive individual awards, but it is a team effort," Bussell said. "Without Kota (Dakota Wesson) and Ayla (Young) I would not have been able to win the award."

The threesome of Bussell, Wesson and Young will be together on the hardwood for at least two more years in Gallatin at Volunteer State Community College. They've all signed to play for coach Jason Montgomery and the Lady Pioneers in 2008-'09.

"I think what we left here for the girls on the team and others coming up at Forrest is a legacy to look up to. Winning the district is a must. We are expecting them to win district, compete for the region, and make it to sub-state.
