Ronnie Melton, a Dodd Construction foreman, operates the track-hoe digging a trench parallel to Horton Highway in Chapel Hill where the work may continue another two months. A 9,200-foot-long, six-inch, forced main sewer is being installed 48 inches deep.
CHAPEL HILL -- Nearly 100 acres in three tracts are to be considered for annexation by the town's Board of Mayor and Aldermen when it meets on Monday.

All three annexation requests are recommended by the planning commission.

The largest request is from developer Ron Lampley, who wants to build two subdivisions on 54 acres along Eagleville Highway. The mayor and aldermen are to gather in the Chapel Hill Police and Fire Department building at 119 Horton Parkway at 4:45 p.m. for a public hearing on Lampley's request.

It's attracted attention.

Residents are asking why more property would be annexed when the town hasn't delivered on its promise to extend sewer to areas annexed more than six years ago, a city official said Wednesday. The sewer line being built now will fulfill the promise before service had to be available, and it's to serve the new subdivision.
