Historic home damaged by fire
the oldest homes in this part of Marshall County on Tuesday night but the Berlin Fire Department, assisted by two other emergency agencies, prevented its destruction.
"The structure is about 150 years old," Berlin Fire Chief Joe Greer said Wednesday. "It has been extensively restored by the present owners, Tom and Doris Alderson. This house is really a beautiful house in a picturesque setting."
However, when firefighters arrived at 1859 Old Berlin Road at 10:27 p.m., they found a two-story wood frame structure with fire showing out of the windows on the west side, Greer said.
"About a minute later fire came through the roof," he added.
BFD was assisted by the Farmington-Rich Creek Fire Department and the Marshall County Emergency Management Agency, the chief said. There were about 20 firefighters on scene.
