Bulldogs breeze past Hampshire
Inclement weather proved to be no impediment for the Cornersville Bulldogs (10-6) Friday. Playing in a steady rain, the Bulldogs thumped an overmatched Hampshire squad 13-1 in five innings at home to complete the season sweep of the Hawks.
Having defeated Hampshire, 14-0, just two days earlier, CHS head coach Brent Adcox used the opportunity to get his reserves some playing time. Cornersville's offense didn't show much of a drop off against the Hawks, as the Bulldogs pounded out 12 hits and drew five walks.
Senior center fielder Jimmy Civils had a productive debut in the starting lineup, going 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBIs, and two runs scored in the leadoff spot. Second-baseman P.J. Allen also added a pair of triples, two RBIs, and a run scored for CHS, while starting pitcher Tyler Cole tallied a pair of singles and two RBIs. Jeremy Burgess, Brett Rogers, Bruce Tipper, Chuck Bassham, Mark Lane, and Chase Bassham registered one hit apiece for Cornersville as well.
