Local girl is going to Junior Olympics

Kristen Williamson, daughter of Kenney and Barbara Williamson of Lewisburg, received third place overall for her level and age in the "Elegance in Bloom" Region 6 Championships, held March 29-30 in Franklin. She placed sixth in her region, which qualifies her to be on the Junior Olympic team at the National Championships, June 6-8, in Canal Winchester, Ohio.

There are a total of six regions and only the top ten from each go on to the Junior Olympic Team, so Kirsten's placing shows she is among the top 60 girls in the country at level 4 in rhythmic gymnastics.

On June 5, Kristen will be trying out for the Future Stars Camp. Girls who qualify go to New York for a week of intense training at the Olympic training grounds to help them build the skills needed to compete at higher levels.

Kristen is in Mrs. Curtis's 4th grade class at Chapel Hill Elementary. She is coached three days a week by Vita Bachman at Let It Shine Gymnastics in Franklin.
