Rockets tame Broncos in twin bill sweep
You have to win the games you are supposed to win and that is what the Forrest Rockets did Tuesday, sweeping a double header from F.C. Boyd Christian School in Chapel Hill, 13-1 in the first game and 13-0 in the second.
Forrest now sits at 6-4 in District 9A play, tied with Eagleville for third place, but the Rockets hold the tiebreaker with two defeats over the Eagles this season. Middle Tennessee Christian School is 7-3 and in second place, while Cascade (11-1) has already clinched first and will be the top seed at the district tournament, which starts May 2 at MTCS.
"I think we have come far enough along that we can certainly challenge for the district tournament title," Forrest head coach Babe Hardison said after the sweep.
The Rockets got two great pitching performances Tuesday, the first by Micah Phifer, who went the distance, striking out five. In the second game, Cody Richardson twirled a one-hitter and struck out four.
