Cornersville High School senior Sara Barnett signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Bryan College Thursday, May 8, at CHS.

Bryan College head coach Jamy Bechler is excited about Barnett's athletic ability and believes she has the potential to be a stopper on the defensive end. "She's a good athlete and tough. I think she'll be someone that can defend and lock down another team's guards. She has the ability to run the floor, score in transition, and play full court defense."

A two-year starter for Cornersville, Barnett had a breakout season as a senior and helped lead the Lady Bulldogs to a third place finish in District 11-A. Barnett was Cornersville's second leading scorer during the 2007-08 campaign with 14 points per game, while also averaging five rebounds, two assists, and one steal per contest. As a result, Barnett was named to the All-District Regular Season Team and earned a spot on the All-District Tournament Team.

During her junior year, Barnett averaged six points and four rebounds per game for the Lady Bulldogs and made the All-District Tournament Team.

As a sophomore, Barnett was a key reserve on a senior-laden Cornersville team that claimed the District 11-A tournament championship and reached the semifinals of the Region 6-A tourney.

Along with Bryan College, Barnett received interest from the University of the South, Rhodes College, Maryville College, Hiwassee Junior College, and Volunteer State Community College.
