Memorial Day weekend activities

Chief Warrant Officer Eric Maricelli, right, presents an American flag that once flew above the Al Asad Air Base, Al Anbar Province, Iraq, to Lewisburg Middle School Principal Randy Hubbell. The flag was presented in appreciation of the support and contributions the School gave to the Marines of Maricelli's unit during their deployment. The members of Marine Wing Support Squadron-473 Airfield Operations Company unit recently returned from their tour of duty. Eric is the son of Butch and Lisa Maricelli of Lewisburg. Mrs. Maricelli is employed at LMS.
The following is a list of activities that are planned in the Marshall County area this Memorial Day weekend.

In honor of Memorial Day, Lewisburg American Legion Post 39 will hold a program at 11 a.m. Monday, May 26, on the Courthouse lawn. Mr. Ted Duning will be the guest speaker. Special music will be presented by Mr. Bobby Jeter and his daughters Rachel and Hannah. Wreaths will be placed at the various war monuments. Taps will be played at the conclusion of the program. The VFW extends an invitation to everyone to have lunch at the VFW building immediately following the program. In case of inclement weather, the program will be held at the Marshall County Community Theater.

Lewisburg American Legion Post 39 and the American Legion Auxiliary will have a potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m Monday, May 26, at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church Life Center. Mr. Ray Farley will be the guest speaker. Mr. Terry Jackson will provide a special musical program.

The Lewisburg Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the Ming and Roger Brown Memorial Tennis Tournament on Saturday, May 24 (youth), and Monday, May 26 (adult), at the Recreation Center. For more information or to register, call Jane Tilford at 359-2482.

The 24th Annual Memorial Day ISA Softball Tournament will be held May 24 and 25 in Shelbyville. For more information contact Steve Lovvorn at 931-684-8143.

There will be a benefit with live music and a raffle for Jim and Lydia Williams, victims of a house fire, at The Church of Jesus Christ, 1141 East Commerce St., starting at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 24.

Decoration Day at New Hope Cemetery, Talley Station, will be Sunday, May 25. Donations for maintenance may be made at the cemetery until 2 p.m. on the 24th and 25th, or mailed c/o Cemetery, 808 Yell Rd., Lewisburg, TN 37091.

The Liggett Street Church of God will welcome Elder Ashley Cox and the congregation of St. Mark's AME Church, Cornersville, for a collaborative church service, starting with Sunday school at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 25, followed by worship at 11:30 a.m. and lunch after the service.

St. James P. B. Church, 1730 Silver St., Lewisburg, will host a Gospel Singing at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 25. Everyone is welcome.

The Marshall County Memorial Library will be closed Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day.

The Town of Chapel Hill city offices will be closed Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day.

The Town of Cornersville city offices will be closed Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day.

All City of Lewisburg offices will be closed Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day. The Monday's garbage route will be run the following Thursday.

The Marshall County offices in the Courthouse, Courthouse Annex and Hardison Office Annex will be closed Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day.
