Pearson's no-hitter sends Marshall County to loser's bracket
The Marshall County 11-12 year old girl All-Stars came off their huge 2-1 win versus defending Little League World series champions and host Morristown on Monday with a dud on Wednesday, losing to Unicoi County 10-0.
Unicoi's Shea Pearson tossed a no-hitter in the circle with the only base runner coming for Marshall County in the bottom of the fourth inning when MandiLynn Calahan reached on an error.
Marshall County had no answer for Pearson and did not help their own cause, uncharacteristically committing nine errors on defense with six miscues coming in the third inning.
Unicoi scored two runs in the first inning on a single by Ashley Starnes that plated Cheyenne Delff and Pearson, who had both singled.
The bottom fell out on MC in the third inning when Unicoi sent thirteen batters to the plate, scoring five unearned runs on six Marshall County errors to lead 7-0.
Unicoi scored three more in the fifth and the game ended on the ten run mercy in the bottom of the frame when Marshall County failed to score.
"This feels great", said Pearson after the game." "I was just trying to throw strikes and let my defense work behind me."
Unicoi manager Arthur Ferguson said in the post-game interview, "I knew going in it would be a tough game versus Marshall County. Shea was just excellent tonight; she hit her spots and had great movement on the ball."
Marshall County plays in a loser's bracket re-match game tonight versus the host Morristown squad at 7:00pm.
