Local GOP women campaign for McCain

Wednesday, July 23, 2008

The Republican Women of Marshall County are gearing up to campaign for the GOP's presumptive nominee, John McCain.

Last Thursday at their dinner meeting at Shoney's in Lewisburg, they distributed McCain pins and bumper stickers. Yard signs will be given out at the next meeting.

Janet Heckle of Belfast has been chosen to lead campaign efforts for McCain in Marshall County. She's going to Nashville next Saturday to meet with the other Middle Tennessee county campaign chairpersons. After that meeting, Heckle should have a good idea what Republican speakers will be coming to Marshall County in the months between now and the general election. They may even be able to plan an old-fashioned political rally in front of party headquarters on the square in Lewisburg. Heckle only joined the women's group last year when she met the group at the Goats Music and More Festival, but she has been very active since she joining.

The group was expecting a visit from state Sen. Bill Ketron (R-Murfreesboro) during their dinner meeting last week, but a last-minute scheduling conflict prevented him from attending, though he may make it to their August meeting.
