12-year-old boys claim Ripken state title
The twelve-year-old Marshall County Little League boys' All-Star team, managed by Steve Hobbs, won the Cal Ripken State Title last weekend in Bristol.
Hobbs and his squad move on the Cal Ripken Southeastern Regional Tournament in Matthews, N.C. starting tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. versus a team from Mobile, Ala. The opening round game will be broadcast on WJJM and will be called by Brett Wiles and Richard Medley.
In the opening game of the state tournament, Marshall County took on defending champion Kingsport, Tenn. and came away with a 5-3 victory. Aaron Medley, Aaron Hobbs, and Jacob Maultsby all took their turns on the mound for the All-Stars.
Malik Crawford and Hobbs each blasted home runs in the contest for Marshall County.
In game two, Hobbs' stars took on Crieve Hall from Nashville and jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. The game was close throughout until Marshall County broke it open, scoring three times in the fifth to secure a 6-4 win and remain undefeated.
