Lewisburg's biggest employer is concerned about Cedar Ridge Landfill closing next year, according to Mayor Bob Phillips, who says a company official sought a meeting on the matter last week.

Bob Masteller, a vice president of Calsonic Kansei North America who coordinates government and legal affairs for CKNA, spoke for the company on Friday, saying "I'm trying to understand the ramifications."

Asked about the difference between closure next year instead of 2013 or 2014, Masteller replied, "Obviously, from a cost standpoint, it would save money" to continue disposal of factory trash at the landfill just west of Lewisburg.

"For right now," Masteller said he is merely gathering information.
