You're invited to step back in time this weekend, August 8-10, at David Crockett State Park just west of Lawrenceburg. The Park and the Davy Crockett Longhunters are staging the 26th Annual David Crockett Days. Davy Crockett's birthday is Aug. 17, and the event is always held the second weekend in August.
It is advertised as a "celebration and pre-1840 rendezvous." In other words, men, women and children will be camping out, dressing and behaving as they would have 170 years ago. There will be black-powder shooting contests, and other competitions, such as fire starting and tomahawk and knife throwing. Craftsmen will be demonstrating 19th century skills, and traders will be set up to sell true-to-period items.
